And Beyond, Ubud

Where to eat in Ubud

Ubud is in the midst of a tourism boom as increasing amounts of tourist visit from around the globe. This obviously has positive aspects and negative aspects to it (I will save that for another blog post) however it does mean there is a broad array of restaurants and cafes to suit all budgets and tastes. I have not tried all the restaurants/cafes in town but the following have been some of my favourites:

Seniman Coffee – I have been here nearly everyday due to the fact it has fantastic coffee, an outdoor seating area, and the lemon tart is wonderful. There is an outdoor seating area with plastic chairs that have been turned into rocking chairs as well as indoor seating should it be too hot to sit outside. They have a roaster across the street as well as a shop where you can but all things coffee related.

Nusantara by Locavore – specialises in classic Indonesian dishes from across the archipelago. I tried the taster menu which included 7 small dishes with rice for 210,000 rupiah. The food had quite a kick so may not be suited for those who are less tolerant of spicy food.

Melting Wok – booking is essential for this Warung in the centre of Ubud. It specialises in curry with rice and noodles as well as offering a daily special. Good portions for a low price. Cash only.

Warung D’atas – the ribs are incredible, the menu is essentially all things pork with the option to add fries or rice. The price was very reasonable but note, it is slightly out of the town and you have to walk in the road should you go there by foot as there is no pavement. Cash only.

Hujan Locale – highly rated contemporary Indonesian cuisine. They use local produce and the food is delicious. They have a restaurant upstairs and Indonesian tapas downstairs. It is a bit pricey.

Arang Satay Bar – this restaurant is situated on the main road and offers a number of Satay delights. There is a lunch set menu for 100,000 rupiah with the option of meat, fish or vegetarian. If you love satay, this is the place to go.
